Behind the Image

Entering the Temple

In Entering the Temple I really wanted the viewer to feel what it’s like before walking through the doors to a temple in Japan. You feel so small and curious as to what’s on the other side, but you know it’s something special and great, something you’ve always wanted to see and will always remember.

Those were my thoughts when walking by this temple in Kyoto, Japan. An ancient city filled with surprises around every corner. I remember everything so vividly, the feeling of the gravel under my feet, the sound of pebbles moving as I made my way through these doors and onto the temple grounds. How much sky there was once walking through these doors and how surprised I felt at how many plants and trees were on the other side.

I entered the temple quietly and respectfully and am taken back to this very place with every viewing of this photograph.
