Behind the Image

It’s undeniable that our surroundings directly affect our mood and state of being. This can be seen and felt every time you take a walk through a beautiful forest or even your local park. We as people naturally gravitate towards places that help invoke feelings of peace and serenity in us, and for me this was one of those places.

I was on a trip to Washington, D.C. from New York City when this photograph was taken in Maryland. Trips for me usually include a balance between cultural activities in city areas and more natural ones. I often seek out forests, nature reserves, and national parks if possible.

Living harmoniously with our animal friends is something I hope we continue working towards as a people. Animal rights are so important and have been consistently improving as more and more people choose to speak out against injustices and also choose to live more ethically driven lives.

Standing so close to this beautiful creature and them knowing I wasn’t a threat was a significant moment to me. I was there to observe, photograph, and enjoy the natural surroundings as much as the wildlife that lives in these woods does everyday. I wasn’t a threat. I was a friend and I think this bird knew that too.
