There were musicians who'd come here to sing and play guitar, painters, & other travelers would come to this very same spot. It drew us all in with it’s natural beauty and mountain views that seemed to go on forever.
You can see the main city area of Kyoto off in the distance, which is where I spent most of my time until I made my way to Kiyomizu-dera, officially Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera. This buddhist temple is over 1,000 years old, being founded in 778. It was truly an honor to be able to walk these ancient grounds and this photograph brings me right back to that incredible day.
I remember feeling surprised when I first came across this scene. Surprised by how beautiful the tall and vibrant bamboo was as it offered some sort of protection to the vehicles that were located in the center of it all.
When you travel you see and experience every single moment with fresh eyes, one of my favorite aspects of traveling itself. Anything can be stunning and beautiful and just absolutely magical in every possible way. It’s just up to you to allow yourself to see and feel that magic in all that surrounds you. But when you do, there’s no feeling like it.
This infrared photograph offers a unique take on a familiar scene. It was a cold, rainy day when I stood in this spot with my camera and umbrella and I’m so grateful that I did. This has become one of my all time favorite photographs from my time spent in New York and I plan on revisiting this very special location again in the not so distant future.
Taken while on my way to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan, I was truly blown away by this scene. Japanese architecture is naturally just so elegant and peaceful, but seeing it reflected in the water just helps to pay homage to something you already love.
The view of this ancient city and mountains that seem to go on forever was a viewpoint I myself was fortunate to experience. Being surrounded by thousand year old temples and women in kimonos was enchanting to me. Traveling can offer you a different perspective and I tried to capture that perspective here.
It's important to take a moment and look around you. Beauty comes in all forms, throughout nature and in cities. The architecture, the cloudy sky, and this train passing through offered me the perfect opportunity to capture those feelings in one photograph.
Agra is a city filled with beautiful rooftops that all have the Taj Mahal in view. I had spent hours on the grounds and came to this very spot to rest. The sun began to set on this perfect day and I was enamored with all that surrounded me. This photograph takes me back to that very moment and I’m grateful for the memories it’s given me.
Mountains that seemed to go on forever surrounded by lush trees and beautiful plants. There was so much life surrounding me in this place, it's a memory I'm able to treasure forever through this photograph.
The plants were so beautifully overgrown and the streets so clean, suffice it to say I was more than pleasantly surprised by this unexpected detour. Although I was just visiting, somehow I did feel like I was at home here.
Travel photography to me is an all encompassing area of photography that includes both nature photography and architecture photography. One of the things that drew my to photography was my love for travel. It was the way photography was able to capture these incredible, once in a life time moments you experience while away from home.
Traveling is so important to me, it opens your mind and your eyes to a new reality. You get to connect with people and places in ways you never could have imagined you would. The ability to capture those feelings in these travel prints is a gift to me and one that I’ve always treasured.
One of the great things about travel photography is the places it can take you. Your love of photography and desire to shoot and experience nature and cities will bring you to the highest mountain peaks, to the largest oceans and the most interesting and unique cities on the planet.
That’s what travel photography is to me. Photography is an incredible medium that gives you the amazing ability to tell a story in the palm of your hand. Sometimes the whole story is in that one image, other times the image only contains a beginning, middle, or end. Either way, it’s a story that should be told and you’re the lucky one who gets to tell it.
